Meet the Podcasters: Deconstructing the Craft of Audio Storytelling

Learn how host James Deeney interviews working podcasters to examine the real workflows behind successful shows.

How do independent podcast creators turn initial concepts into loyal, global audiences? Produced by Podcast.co (part of the Cue network) and hosted by James Deeney, Meet the Podcasters explores the practical realities of podcast production. Through interviews with hosts across various genres, the series breaks down show planning, audience growth, and recording methods.

The Brief

As podcasting grew into a mainstream medium, aspiring hosts faced practical choices around software, microphones, interview techniques, and promotion. Podcast.co developed Meet the Podcasters to share first-hand advice directly from working creators.

Hosted by James Deeney, the show interviews hosts from a broad mix of sectors—including health, science, comedy, and business. The objective was to create a reliable audio resource that examines what works in modern podcasting without relying on generic theory.

How We Made It Work: Clear Formatting for Creator Discussions

To keep conversations focused and useful for creators, the production team used a structured post-production process.

We focused on:

  • Remote Audio Clean-Up: Guests recorded from various home and studio setups across different locations. Audio restoration tools were applied to remove room reverberation, balance vocal volume, and eliminate background noise.
  • Structured Narrative Flow: Long-form creator interviews can stray off topic. The editing process focused on key operational themes, including episode preparation, guest booking, audio gear, and audience retention.
  • Consistent Audio Packaging: Clean voiceover intros, clear chapter breaks, and subtle music transitions were added to ensure a uniform presentation across all episodes.
  • Integrated Publishing Pipeline: Cue managed the technical workflow from raw recording through to mastering and distribution across streaming feeds.

The Results

Meet the Podcasters serves as a practical knowledge base for new and experienced audio creators.

  • Targeted Industry Reach: Built a sustained audience of independent podcasters, production teams, and industry professionals.
  • Diverse Content Archive: Documented real production journeys across varied shows, covering formats from solo daily shows to multi-host interviews.
  • Consistent Broadcast Finish: Maintained clear audio standards across multiple seasons of remote recordings.

What Listeners Value

Podcasters appreciate the focus on real operational challenges. Rather than surface-level advice, guests share practical details on early production mistakes, editing workflows, and realistic audience growth.
